The great names of international jazz will meet once again from 23 to 27 October 2024 at the cross-border festival Jazz & Wine of Peace, between the Friulian and Slovenian Collio, which between music and excellent food and wine celebrates friendship between peoples, anticipating the spirit of Gorizia Nova Gorica, Capital of Culture 2025.
Organised by Circolo Controtempo in Cormons (Gorizia), the headquarters from which the widespread programme branches out, the festival will host 28 events in 5 theatres (Teatro di Cormons (Go), Teatro Verdi in Gorizia, Kulturni Dom in Gorizia and Kulturni Dom in Nova Gorica, Teatro di Gradisca d’Isonzo (Go)) and in 18 wineries and historic residences. Six will be the ‘Jazz & Taste’ events, where music is designed to accompany and enhance wine tastings.
Absolute protagonists on the programme include Jason Moran (23 October, Gradisca d’Isonzo), one of the most outstanding pianists, composers and all-round artists in contemporary jazz (and not only); the trio led by the celebrated Philadelphia pianist Marc Copland (25 October, Gradisca d’Isonzo); the quartet of emblazoned cellist Erik Friedlander in which the piano presence of Uri Caine stands out (27 October, Vipolze, Slovenia); the quartet of Kurt Rosenwienkel, the guitarist who has dominated the New York jazz scene for over a decade (27 October, Cormons). Among the women, the powerful and bewitching Fatoumata Diawara, guitarist and vocal virtuoso, one of the most vital representatives of the African music scene (23 October, Gorizia) and Camilla George (24 October, Cormons) Nigerian saxophonist living in London. visionary, composer, bandleader. And again, Hamid Drake, (25 October, Cormons) one of the greatest drummers of contemporary jazz, with his homage to the icon Alice Coltrane; Anthony Joseph, singer, jazz revolutionary poet, musician, but also Afro-futurist cult writer, activist, in the front line to defend civil rights (26 October, Cormòns) and the band with the creative Norwegian drummer Paal Nilssen (26 October, Nova Gorica).
