\u201cSUBA<\/em>\u201d, the second album by piano virtuoso Omar Sosa and kora master and singer Seckou Keita, is released worldwide on October 22, 2021 on the bendigedig <\/em>label.<\/span><\/p>\n

Written and recorded in the 2020 global lockdown, SUBA is a hymn to hope, to a new dawn of compassion and real change in the world after the pandemic, as well as a visceral call to a perennial prayer for peace and unity between people.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Atlantic Ocean separates Cuba and Senegal, the countries of origin respectively of Omar Sosa and Seckou Keita, a distance tempered by their common and ancestral connection with Africa.<\/span><\/p>\n

SUBA means \u201cdawn\u201d in Mandinka, the Seckou\u2019s native language. The dawn is also his favorite moment of the day, an hour of energy and hoop. \u201cEven if you are going through difficulties, in the morning you reset your brain, you see the dawn as a new day, a new pace, something which begins, and it is always exciting. I This was the feeling I got while I was writing with Omar<\/em>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

According to Omar, the album is a heartfelt reiteration of humanity’s most ancient prayers. “The concept of the album is peace, hope, unity. In the moment we are living, when everything seems to fall little by little, the strength we have in ourselves is a divine connection with our inner voice, with our spirit, with the light and with our ancestors. We try to give hope through music and to tell people that we can still be together<\/em>. “<\/span><\/p>\n

Two principles guide the company: less is more<\/em> (or minimalism as Omar likes to call it) and collaboration. “The project is Africa<\/em>,” says Omar, “our own way. We present our traditions, but always with respect and listening to the other, with great humility. No one is in command, in command there is music, in command there is the message.<\/em> “<\/span><\/p>\n

“What Africa can teach the world is the spirituality that hides behind everything<\/em>.” says Omar. “We are often slaves to our crazy and humiliating society, where everyone needs to be successful<\/em>.”<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
